Intro

Bumla Pass is the border between China and India at an altitude of 12,000 feet. It is the main historical location of the 1962 China-India war, and it's currently heavily protected under Indian military control.

Only Indian citizens are allowed to visit and you need a special access pass to enter. Access passes are routinely granted when entering the area with a local tour operator.

To visit Bumla Pass you need to hire a local tour operator or local driver. Only local cars are allowed to enter. It is easiest to book a tour to Bumla Pass online or to find a local driver in Tawang.

Bumla Pass is famous for being an important historical location of the 1962 India-China war and for being a still heavily guarded border at an altitude of 12,000 feet.

Make sure to visit Bumla Pass when the weather conditions are good. The pass is covered in snow all year and gets difficult to navigate in bad weather.

Bumla Pass is cold and is covered with snow for most of the year.

Your tour operator will do the application for you, all that is needed from you is a copy of the required documents.

To apply for the access pass to Bumla you will need to provide a copy of your Aadhar card and Inner-Line-Permit (ILP).

Make sure to carry the original documents with your on your tour.
