Private vehicles are not allowed access on the road to Bumla Pass. Bumla Pass can only be accessed with a registered local car and driver.

Getting a permit for Bumla Pass
A special permit is required to access Bumla Pass. This is a different permit than your Inner Line Permit (ILP).
The permit for Bumla Pass is included when you book a taxi and we'll handle the application for you. You need to apply for the permit one day before.

Route to Bumla Pass
The most common route is to go north from Tawang (A), stop by Panga Teng Tso Lake (B), and continue to Bumla Pass (C).
After Bumla Pass you can optionally go to the famous Sungetsar Lake (D). This can easily be done on the same day.
Private vehicles are not allowed access to Bumla Pass. You can only visit Bumla Pass by hiring a registered local car and driver.
Bumla Pass is famous for being an important historical location of the 1962 India-China war and for being a still heavily guarded border at an altitude of 12,000 feet.
Make sure to visit Bumla Pass when the weather conditions are good. The pass is covered in snow all year and gets difficult to navigate in bad weather.
Bumla Pass is cold and is covered with snow for most of the year.
Only Indian nationals can visit Bumla Pass after applying for a special access permit. Foreigners are not allowed to enter.
